Posted To House Kheperu:

I (or someone else from House AVA) will likely be driving again this year to the Open House in June so if anyone is on a direct or semi-direct Atlanta to Medina route and needs a ride drop me an e-mail. If I'm driving I'll be leaving on the 21st instead of the 22nd, as I'd like to be in town a day early due to the long drive and will be departing the morning of the 25th.

Sorry for not giving everyone an update before now... it was a good trip and we're looking forward to returning again next year. Zero, SethNunMin, Andarael, & Maloryn from the House made the trip along with Joe (religion research guy), Logan, and two other guests. If I come across any pictures I'll post them!

See Michelle's LJ comments on the weekend below or listen to a podcast recap at: http://www.shadowdancepodcast.com/
(013: Kheperu Open House 2007 Recap)

Gather 2007
Well, it's Monday, so the Kheprian Open House is officially at a close. Many of our guests are using this day to return to their lives, heading out in cars, planes, or buses. Part of our closing ritual was aimed at safe passage, so here's to safe, quick, and uneventful travel.

As usual with this annual event, there's soooo much to speak about. We've been holding these things since the fall of 2000 (has it really been that long) and every year, I feel like we get the hang of another aspect of running what amounts to a convention. This year, if I had a complaint at all, it was the lack of a con-suite -- a situation created largely by the hotel. We usually book one of the suites, but they're renovating the whole back wing. Not only are the suites there, but that ate up a bunch of rooms so that the hotel was beyond booked with our people, the Honeybee Quilters, and a few other groups.

I kind of feel bad for the quilters. They were really not prepared for us, and I'm sure they have interesting stories to tell their grand-kids. At one point, an older lady with the quilters was talking near the bar with her friend. As she said "goodbye," she called back to her friend, "Pray for me." As she strode forward through the lobby, she realized many of us were sitting there and had heard her. She looked at all of us -- some in all black, some not, some Goth, some not, all a little bit strange around the edges -- and she said, "Not you people." I guess she was worried who or what exactly might answer our prayers. Smile

Chris Miller, my co-host of the podcast, was able to make it out for a night, and subsequently, we have recorded evidence of the event. He caught my presentation on Dreamwalking, and, after a crazy amount of technical difficulties (who's surprised? Raise your hand!), he got the presentation up on the site.

Go take a listen: Dreamwalking.

I've still got some presentations from last year recorded that I have yet to clean up (combination of busy and inept), but we'll see about making those available for interested parties as well.

I really enjoyed having our guest presenters speak. This wasn't the first year we opened the event to guest speakers, but it was the first year where quite a few guests presented. I'd like to thank Merticus and Zero, of House AVA, Morgan Felidae, and Seth Nun Min, who all gave wonderful presentations on their various areas of expertise.

There's so much more I could write, but for now, I just want to thank everyone who came out. Thank everyone in the House who worked hard to make it happen. And thank everyone online for being patient with me if I disappear now for a few days as I recover.
