Members Of The Real Vampire Community;

By now most everyone is aware of the Vampire & Energy Work Research Survey (VEWRS) & the Advanced Vampirism & Energy Work Research Survey (AVEWRS) that have been integral components to a soon to be year long study of those who identify themselves as real (psi/sang), living, or modern vampires conducted by fellow members of the Community. We would like to thank everyone for their participation up to this point & take the time to update everyone on the progress & current status of this project. There are less than thirty days remaining until we begin the lengthy analysis process of this study. We have high research standards to which we strive to adhere & therefore request that you complete your VEWRS & AVEWRS surveys as soon as possible & e-mail them to response@vampiresurvey.com. We will accept surveys through March 31, 2007 while we're engaged in the correlation, data entry, & analysis phase, however, please attempt to complete your submissions by December 31, 2006 if at all possible. We have received 209 digital responses of the VEWRS since March 22, 2006 & 65 digital responses of the AVEWRS since August 1, 2006. In addition we mailed VEWRS & AVEWRS surveys to over 200 postal addresses & have received 47 printed copies as of December 1, 2006. We would greatly appreciate a reciprocation of participation on the part of those who requested printed copies & were mailed surveys in good faith with the understanding that they would be completed & returned. To date, the total cost incurred for this study is over $2,850 & the analysis & interpretation phases will last well into late 2007. We're fully aware many of you have waited to see how this study progressed, the follow-through on commitments, the attention span & sincerity of the researchers, & the scope of participation before sending in your responses. We hope thus far we have shown a commitment on our part that would warrant your participation in this study; be it whether you are adamant or lackadaisical as to the final outcome or overall spirit of the project. Please realize that without actual participation from a diverse cross section of our Community such arguments or postulations for the future are futile, counterproductive, & moreover hypocritical. We sincerely appreciate every moment you spend taking these surveys, value each word written, & every question or conceptual critique & clarification you provide. The Community ultimately determines the outcome & quality of information received in this study; thus justifying calls to those who have been instrumental in the formation, mentorship, teaching, and overall leadership of the Community to step forward & convey their mature & insightful perspectives through the framework of these surveys. We appreciate the fact that these surveys are being used as resource, teaching, & self-reflective tools, however, to be of particular value in this study they need to be returned. For the latest information, updated response statistics, & to download a copy of both surveys visit the web site below:

We know these surveys are long and take hours to complete but doing so helps more than you could ever realize. During the five cumulative months & many sleepless nights we spent drafting these surveys we knew that asking a generally paranoid, sometimes closed, & diverse community such as ours to answer 988 detailed questions regarding vampirism & their personal lives would be a long shot & be interpreted by many as an ambitiously foolish venture. However, we knew that in order for any meaningful research to ever be conducted on this Community it would be necessary to transition past the standard superficial topical & redundant lines of questioning from forum polling, 25 or 50 question surveys released in small pockets of the Community, & other attempts that were heavily inclusive of the lifestylers & enthusiasts as a result poor targeting & distribution methods. Sitting back ten months after the release of the first survey we can now breathe a sigh of relief as the long shot seems to have paid off & responses continue to come into us on an almost daily basis. We've already gathered 132,150+ cumulative question answers & hundreds of pages of mini-essays from those in the Community giving specific responses to how they individually view, interpret, relate, & identify with vampirism - the anthropological, psychological, sociological, parapsychological, & general qualitative research value of these responses are immeasurable. Just because we have attained enough responses on the VEWRS for statistical variation it would be a travesty to stop the process short of giving everyone an opportunity to have their voices heard - please seize upon this chance to complete BOTH surveys & submit them - subsequently increasing the quality & sample size of this study! Additionally, please encourage others on forums, groups, ezboards, e-lists, meetups, & within your local Community to participate in this unprecedented study of real vampirism. We realize many individuals are busy with family, work, & life in general & also are aware many transition in & out of the online Community & this is why we rely on you to inform these individuals of this study. Trust us, down the road you will be disappointed at not haven taken this opportunity to have your individual free response answers on the personal meaning of vampirism to you, community, paths, beliefs, awakening, & general ethics be considered in the analysis. It is very difficult being from the United States & effectively contacting the real vampire community in Europe & abroad. We desire a strong international response & can't accomplish this without the continued assistance from those who are members of international forums or reside in countries other than the United States. If those who meet this criteria would assist us in reposting this information in their own respective countries Community sites & in their native language we would be appreciative. By request we have made use of professional translation software to roughly translate the VEWRS & AVEWRS into Francais, Deutsch, Espanol, & Russian. We realize these translations are not without flaw & not the same quality as human translation, therefore, if at all possible please attempt to complete these surveys in English with free response & essay sections in the language of your choice; as we have individuals who speak most of these languages on staff.

Troubleshooting: If for any reason you are unable to open, view, save to file, or otherwise fill out any portion of the VEWRS & AVEWRS due to computer system or program limitations please utilize the HTML or digital text-only copy of the surveys hyperlinked in the Troubleshooting section on the main site underneath the file downloads. The primary format of the VEWRS & AVEWRS is MSWord, however, they can be opened in most major word processing applications & if the form check boxes are not present you may place a X or delete the non-applicable choices per question.

Important: IF YOU COMPLETED THE VEWRS (1st SURVEY) IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU ALSO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE AVEWRS (2nd SURVEY) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO; AS THEY WILL BE CORRELATED TOGETHER!

Each individual response from the VEWRS & the first section of the AVEWRS will be correlated and/or linked where applicable in various permutations to highlight both similar & dissimilar trends among responses & written responses grouped & interpreted accordingly. Responses will not simply be tallied without intensive cross-correlation & interpretation of written responses. In order for detailed anthropological, psychological, or phenomenological research to be properly conducted on a community a foundation must first be established & this is one of the primary purposes of this research study. To be able to firmly grasp & understand the elements of this Community, there needs to be an exploration into the shared commonalities, differences, & developing trends in a concise & centralized format. These surveys ask what could be construed as personal information of a non-identifiable nature; as we strip all responses from envelopes, e-mails, etc. to ensure privacy protection. If for any reason you do not feel comfortable providing certain demographic data we suggest you only provide your current residence & place of birth to the nearest major metropolitan city & give the month & year of your birthday; entering 0 or - for the day. In addition, please read the Ethics¯ & Privacy¯ sections of the surveys. We take this extremely seriously & adhere to the strict conduct outlined therein without exception. We are interested in how you experience the vampiric condition more so than we are the details of your personal life & will continue to value your privacy & anonymity above all else. While the demographic data collected is an integral part of the quantitative statistical analysis, the qualitative free response oriented data speaks to the heart of this study.

If there are questions on the surveys that do not provide adequate choices and/or that you disagree with, then utilize the "Other", free response, or even the margins to indicate such. We welcome you to write any & all information you would like to see covered in this study as well as open to any constructive criticism leveled on the part of those who have chosen to participate. If you feel the need to provide clarification to your answers let us assure you everything that is written does not go unnoticed & will be taken into account in the analysis. Instead of criticizing aspects of the surveys that you disagree with, take the power into your own hands to explain to us why in your responses. Those thought provoking arguments will be printed as a matter of record alongside the conclusions & interpretations - this study is a living & dynamic document for the entire Community & this is why it is so important to draw from diverse viewpoints. When the results are published in late 2007 we would hope that you would not choose to engage in Monday morning quarterbacking if you did not at least choose to partake or attempt to fully read & understand the scope of this study in the first place. This is not a census or basic data graphing project that will result in mere orphaned percentages & graphs. Please write as much information as you would like on these surveys; expressing your opinions, experiences, & knowledge of what vampirism means to you.

Lastly, please take the time to speak directly with your friends, forums, groups, local Houses, gatherings, meetups, etc. to encourage them to complete these surveys & submit them as soon as possible. We are gathering responses from all areas of this Community (online & offline) & ironically individuals who would never speak with one other are banding together for a common purpose to put forth their individual (independent, affiliated, left-hand, right-hand, up, down, or sideways) view of the vampiric condition & Community. It makes no difference of your individual path - Solitary (Ronin), StrigoiVii (OSV), Vampire Church, Temple Of The Vampire (TOV), Kheperian, Sanguinarium, Sekhrian, Order Of The Vampire (TOS), Quinotaur, Cimmerian, Eclipsan, Pranist, etc.; this is a universal study directed towards the specific subset of the vampire subculture that identifies themselves as "real psi, sanguinary, or living vampires" & we are sincerely seeking participation from all paths, orders, & beliefs without the desire to infringe or violate the tenets or private inner teachings of any particular group. Our staff is available to answer questions so don't hesitate to contact us. We sincerely appreciate your participation in this research endeavor & will strive to analyze & treat the responses we receive with the utmost professionalism.

Sincerely,

Vampire Research Staff

response@vampiresurvey.com

We ask that over the next few weeks you take time to yourself to read both of these surveys and complete them to the best of your ability (please note the five important acknowledgements listed later in this post). For those among you who have questions or seek further clarification we are available 24 hours a day to answer your questions both online, via telephone if necessary, or if you are in the Atlanta, GA area we will even meet with you. Basically, we are willing to go to whatever reasonable lengths necessary to provide this Community with the most up to date and transparent information on this study as possible and to this end are available at: research@vampiresurvey.com

Surveys Available For Download From:

http://www.vampiresurvey.com

NOTE: IF YOU COMPLETED THE VEWRS (1st SURVEY) IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU ALSO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE AVEWRS (2nd SURVEY) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO; AS THEY WILL BE CORRELATED TOGETHER! Please use the chart located at the web site above to verify we have received your surveys and that there are two X's by your entry.

To date we've received over 250 responses on both of these surveys and have 60 days remaining in the study. Please carefully read the purpose and intent of this research and help contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the Community. These are NOT surveys for roleplayers or enthusiasts or those who have only a superficial understanding of modern vampirism - they are neutrally drafted and represent an average age of 28 for respondents to date from Europe, America, and others parts of the World. We are soliciting responses from respected sources within the Community and request your support and participation. Thank you!

Five Important Acknowledgements You Need To Know:

1.) These surveys are LONG and DETAILED and require time to complete. We know this because we spent many sleepless months drafting, editing, and revising them with each of us sitting down and completing them ourselves. Also, please note that some questions might appear out of place or unrelated to what one would normally consider to be found in a vampire/energy work research study - there is a purposeful and calculating reason behind this and these questions are very important to establish a baseline, etc. We value your time and ask that you use the evenings, coffee breaks, or downtime during the weekend to thoughtfully reflect and answer both of these surveys. We’ve even tossed around the idea of offering T-Shirts “I Survived The Vampire Research Survey” or “I Took The Vampire Research Survey And All I Got Was…” - all jokes aside though, the QUALITY of responses to date have far exceeded our expectations and we would like to add yours to this growing study. We ask that those who have a sincere interest in this Community and who wish to expand the current body of knowledge regarding vampirism please participate. The responses, both quantitative and qualitative will be analyzed to the best of our ability (as outlined in detail in the purpose sections located in both surveys) at the cessation of the both the VEWRS and AVEWRS studies in a long and tedious process beginning in 2007. Each individual response from the VEWRS and the first section of the AVEWRS will be correlated and/or linked where applicable in various permutations to highlight both similar and dissimilar trends among responses that yield such information and written responses grouped and interpreted accordingly. Responses will not simply be tallied without intensive cross-correlation and interpretation of written responses. These surveys could have easily topped 1500+ questions... statistically for every two questions we kept one was tossed. This study simply attempts to lay the foundation for future researchers to expand into more in-depth lines of questioning - a roadmap for others to follow. In order for detailed anthropological, psychological, or phenomenological research to be properly conducted on a community a foundation must first be established. Forums come and go and accounts of individual's experiences are spread far and wide. In order to be able to firmly grasp the overall scope of such data there needs to be an exploration into the shared commonalities, differences, and developing trends in a concise and centralized format.

2.) There are TWO surveys. VEWRS – 1st Survey and AVEWRS – 2nd Survey. One covers the general community and background and the other covers in-depth specifics of vampirism and energy work. IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE VEWRS IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU ALSO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE AVEWRS (2nd SURVEY); AS THEY WILL BE CORRELATED TOGETHER!

3.) Yes, these surveys ask what could be construed as personal information of a non-identifiable nature (we strip all responses from envelopes/e-mails/etc. to ensure such). Therefore, if you do not feel comfortable providing certain demographic data we suggest the following remedy:

a.) Provide current residence and places of birth to the nearest major metropolitan city
b.) Give the month and year of your birthday and enter “0” or “-“ for the day
c.) Read the Ethics & Privacy sections of the surveys - we take this extremely seriously and adhere to the strict conduct outlined therein without exception.

Bottom Line: We are interested in how you experience the vampiric condition more so than we are the details of your personal life and will continue to value your privacy and anonymity above all else. While the demographic data collected is an integral part of the quantitative statistical analysis, the qualitative free response oriented data speaks to the heart of this study. For more information please read the FAQ located on the web site.

4.) This is important so read this one carefully. If there are questions on the surveys that do not provide adequate choices and/or that you disagree with, then utilize the “Other”, free response, or even the margins if completed by hand to indicate such. We WELCOME you to write or type ANY and ALL information you would like to see covered in this study as well as open to any constructive criticism leveled on the part of those who have chosen to participate. If you feel the need to provide clarification to your answers let us assure you everything that is written does NOT go unnoticed and will be taken into account in the analysis. Instead of criticizing aspects of the surveys that you disagree with, take the power into your own hands to explain to us why in your responses. Those thought provoking arguments will be printed as a matter of record alongside the conclusions and interpretations – this study is a living and dynamic document for the entire community and this is why it is so important to draw from diverse viewpoints. When the results are published in late 2007 we would hope that you would not choose to engage in Monday morning quarterbacking if you did not at least choose to partake or attempt to fully read and understand the scope of this study in the first place. It is NOT a census or basic data graphing project that will result in mere orphaned percentages and graphs. By all means write or type until your heart’s content and express your opinions, experiences, and knowledge of what vampirism means to YOU.

5.) PLEASE take the time to speak directly with your friends, forums, boards, local Houses, gatherings, meetups, etc. to encourage them to complete both of these surveys and submit them as soon as possible. We are gathering responses from ALL areas of this Community (online and offline) and ironically individuals who would never speak with one other are banding together for a common purpose to put forth their individual (ronin, solitary, independent, affiliated, left-hand, right-hand, up, down, sideways) view of the vampiric condition and Community. Solitary (Ronin), StrigoiVii (OSV), Temple Of The Vampire (TOV), Vampire Church, Kheperian, Sanguinarium, Sekhrian, Order Of The Vampire (TOS), Quinotaur, Cimmerian, Eclipsan, Pranist, etc. - It makes NO difference of your individual path; this is a universal study directed towards the specific subset of the vampire subculture that identifies themselves as "real psi, sanguinary, or living vampires" and we are sincerely seeking participation from ALL paths, orders, and beliefs without the desire to infringe or violate the tenets or private inner teachings of any particular group. Our staff is available to answer questions around the clock so don’t hesitate to contact us. We sincerely appreciate your participation in this research endeavor and will strive to analyze and treat the data we receive with the utmost professionalism.

The Vampire & Energy Work Research Survey (VEWRS)
The Advanced Vampirism & Energy Work Research Survey (AVEWRS)

The final release of the VEWRS comprises 379 questions, covering 11 primary categories, and spans 74 pages. The final release of the AVEWRS comprises 609 questions, covering 5 primary categories, and spans 139 pages. We realize these surveys (VEWRS & AVEWRS) are lengthy, and that they call for a serious investment of time and thought. Many months of development and countless hours of editing and review have gone into the writing of these surveys. We have done our best to put together questions which, when answered by members of the community, will help provide answers to questions that vampires have been asking for years, and will allow our community to be understood better by others. This is a rare chance for those who are willing to put forth the effort to benefit the entire community. Keeping in mind the scope of this project, please do not request a copy if you feel you are not up to the task. To maintain the integrity of the data, we need as many surveys to be returned to us as possible. This is an effort by the community and for the community - no loyalty of affiliation, bias, or preferential consideration is taken into account in the pursuance of this community study. The results of these surveys will be published in 2007 as an expansive study.

The AVEWRS (follow-up survey to the VEWRS) may be downloaded in the following file formats from: http://www.vampiresurvey.com

AVEWRS Purpose & Significance:

The Advanced Vampirism & Energy Work Research Survey (AVEWRS) is conducted by the Atlanta Vampire Alliance [AVA] with contributions from both independent and affiliated groups within the vampire community. This survey has come about in response to the inquiry received while conducting the original Vampire & Energy Work Research Survey (VEWRS) and from the examination of responses gathered during past months. The purpose of the VEWRS was to gather data about the general aspects of vampiric life and practice as reported by real vampires with a particular emphasis placed on the social structure and interactions amongst vampires within the Community. The scope of the survey covered many surface topics, but necessarily left many advanced topics unaddressed. During the ongoing analysis and correlation of the responses from the VEWRS we both identified the need as well as received a significant number of requests to address more in-depth aspects of the vampire community; specifically vampiric traits, abilities, beliefs, and energy work techniques. Based on these requests, five independent research topics were chosen to be explored and subsequently compiled into a single concise survey format to facilitate the ease of participation. We believe that the information gathered regarding these topics will be of specific and immediate interest to members of the Community, and will increase the knowledge that the Community has about itself, its members as individuals, and its relationship with other groups and communities.

Complimenting the work outlined in the VEWRS, we provide the opportunity in this follow-up survey for the participant to provide comprehensive written responses regarding the primary areas of personal experiences, abilities, and the application as well as interpretation of their beliefs. Some questions may not have an apparent direct connection to the vampire or energy worker communities; however, in order to correlate data in the areas of personality, beliefs, and demographic background they are crucial to establishing a foundation for detailed case study analysis. In many cases these questions directly address the past analysis of researchers regarding the vampire subculture and the conclusions drawn by these outside researchers from the examination of limited reported experiences by members of the Community. We hope that the data gathered through this survey will help serve our primary goal, and allow the Community to examine itself by addressing topics which are important to its members. Our intention is to provide this data in a comprehensive printed and digitally available analysis to the Community as a resource for our deeper understanding of modern vampirism. We anticipate the results will provide a body of data which will speak to members of the Community, clarify aspects of vampirism and the culture that vampires share, and allow individuals to place their own experiences, practices and beliefs in context, with regard to the greater Community.

Like with the VEWRS, the qualitative aspects of this survey will allow for an intrinsic case study examination that covers the primary spectrum of beliefs and opinions held by both the independent and affiliated vampire community. The AVEWRS is designed as a stand-alone study built after a preliminary review of the VEWRS, however, there is a provision embedded into its design to allow linking to the initial VEWRS for purposes of correlating the demographic and other quantitative data presented in topic one. The use of this sequential transformative strategy will enable our researchers to further expand the examination into the personal lifestyle, family background, medical history, paranormal experiences, and societal involvement as reported by individual vampires and first highlighted in the VEWRS. The remaining topics of the AVEWRS, unlike that of the VEWRS, are independent from one another and address uniquely different questions and purposes, however, directly adhere to the overall scope and spirit prevalent within both surveys. Utilizing a concurrent transformative strategy, sections two through five will examine a variety of subjects in varying levels of detail. We will attempt to highlight the integral nature of energy work within the vampire community by providing a comprehensive battery of questions concerning individual perception, manipulation, and utilization of energy. As evidenced throughout pockets within the community, terminology used to describe the vampiric condition is variable and thus presents a challenge to researchers to adequately interpret the intent of the participant. This issue is addressed in topic three through a qualitative examination of definitions used by the modern vampire community to describe vampirism. In addition the specific beliefs, postulated origins, characteristics, and practices of vampires are thoroughly examined. Building on the preliminary work concerning spirituality and its association with those in the Community, we will examine in greater detail the religious, spiritual, moral, ethical, and philosophical ideals that motivate and often serve as a uniting force for the Community. This phenomenological approach into the thought processes and viewpoints held by vampires is crucial to understanding the collective consciousness of shared beliefs within the Community and for potentially dispelling misconceptions of unethical and immoral treatment of others by our kind. An examination of how vampires interact with subcultures will compliment our preliminary finding in the VEWRS that many vampires identify themselves as belonging to one or more additional subcultures and/or otherkin classifications. This pseudo-ethnography will examine the core interactions, perceived and directed sentiment, and cultural similarities shared among communities.

We understand the value of quality responses over that of quantity and seek directly members of the community we recognize as being able to provide valuable insight. The potential knowledge this survey may provide to the vampire community merits an extensive networking effort to gather support and participation. While conducting this research we are committed to remaining neutral and abstaining from controversial rhetoric that could be viewed as biased. As researchers, we recognize that we have a responsibility to be both fair and thorough in serving our community. Using a pragmatic approach to our research we welcome exploration of the diversity of beliefs held by those of the Community without injection of assumptive claim or validity judgment. This is ultimately an effort by the Community, and for the Community, which we hope will also reach beyond our boundaries, to be a body of knowledge from which outside scholars can draw when trying to understand the reality of our lives and experience.

AVEWRS Survey Focus:

- 01 - Personal Lifestyle, Experience, & Societal Involvement
- 02 - Advanced Energy Perception, Tools, & Techniques
- 03 - Unraveling The Complexity Of Definitions: Forms, Beliefs, & Practices Of Vampirism
- 04 - The Spirituality & Philosophical Ideals Of Vampires
- 05 - Subcultural Interconnectivity With The Vampire Community

The Two Surveys: VEWRS (1st) & AVEWRS (2nd):

There has been some misunderstanding as to the distinction between the AVEWRS and VEWRS. The VEWRS is the 1st survey launched on March 22, 2006. The AVEWRS is the 2nd or follow-up survey to the VEWRS launched on August 1, 2006. All data within the VEWRS is being correlated along with data from section one of the AVEWRS being linked and subsequently correlated to those who completed the VEWRS. BOTH surveys have a final due date of December 31, 2006.
