Gnosis Productions presents "Sisyphus"

A rock opera by Allen Welty-Green
Directed by MBDuMonde

Sisyphus is a rock opera steeped in the spirit of 1973! The plot centers around a pretentious glam/prog rock star of that era (Sisyphus), and an obsessed teenage fan (Billy). Along the way it touches on teen suicide, the mental health racket, TV talk shows, new age cults, and the music industry.

Composer & librettist Allen Welty-Green grew up in the 70s, and Billy is a composite of people he actually knew. The original concept came from a short story, "A Cry from the Crowd", by Curtis (aka C Ra) McGuirt, who also contributed some lyrics and music to the score. The character of Sisyphus was inspired by Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie, Genesis-era Peter Gabriel, and many others. Matthew Trautwein (Karma Lingo, The Lost Boys) plays the title role, while WREK personality Hart Deer plays Billy. The music is performed by members of Welty-Green's band, Z-Axis, and others.

Sisyphus is directed by MBDuMonde, a former Atlantan now living in Lexington VA. During her time in Atlanta, Ms. DuMonde was involved with Seven Stages Theater and the Funny That Way performance troupe. She is currently artistic director of the Lexington Ensemble Theater.
