Georgia State School Board Votes to Keep Potter; Yet Another Appeal Planned

In the seemingly never-ending saga of Laura Mallory's fight to get the Harry Potter book series banned from school bookshelves in Georgia, MSNBC reports that though the state board voted to keep the books, she is considering yet another appeal.
The board members apparently voted "without discussion" to keep the books, adding another foil to Mallory's now year-long fight to ban them from Gwinett County schools. She claims the books indoctrinate children in witchcraft. |
I just found this out by one of my friends and this woman is fighting for about a full-on year, and because I was curious about what others would say to this, I have to post this.
She's blaming a book about teaching students witchcraft?
What do you think about Mrs. Mallory's fight? Should the Harry Potter books be taken out for teaching students witchcraft? Do you think the books are teaching children witchcraft?
(To my honest opinion, yes, it does show some Wiccan symbols inside of it-within the meanings-but no, I never learned anything Wiccan or witchcraft-like in that book.) _________________ "Always be open-minded or let yourself waver underneath the truth." |

Hooray! Let them read Potter, dammit. If anything, the HP books are chock-full of pretty much wholesome goodness that any kid could learn something from... or something like that. _________________ Ein Wunder hier... ein Traum gleich dort... |

I think it's a load of bull! How can a child understand Potter books and understand that it is related to real magic?? I wouldn't even notice. I think that that lady is really Wiccan and is trying to throw it out of GA for some reason...weird. _________________ "Always be open-minded or let yourself waver underneath the truth." |

Either that or she's Southern Baptist; their toes are easily tread on by anything that they find might be a little bit fun. _________________ Ein Wunder hier... ein Traum gleich dort... |

Yes, but using the word "witchcraft" from a simple children's series is not the way to do it. _________________ "Always be open-minded or let yourself waver underneath the truth." |
