11.08.06 Mercury Transit viewing at Fernbank
WHAT: Astronomers at the DeKalb School System’s Fernbank
Science Center announce that a solar transit of the planet Mercury will occur on November 8, 2006. Because Mercury is closer to the Sun than the Earth, Mercury occasionally passes between the Earth and the Sun. The transit, or passage of a planet across the disk of the Sun, is a relatively rare occurrence. On average there are only thirteen transits by Mercury each century. The transit on November 8 is the first since 1993. The transit will begin at 2:12 p.m. local time and continue until 7:08 p.m. However, the Sun will set that night at
about 5:39 p.m., so Atlanta observers will see only the first half of the event. Weather permitting, Fernbank Science Center’s Observatory will be open from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. to allow the public to view the event.

Seeking 1 male and 1 female able to play 8-12 (prefer actors age 10- 18 but will consider adults), 1 female able to play 30's/40's (this role may double), and 5-6 actors of either sex and any age. Please come prepared for movement/improv and cold readings. You will also be asked to tell us a joke (remember, this is a children's show, so keep it clean and corny!). Be prepared to show off any special skills (esp. acrobatics, juggling, magic, voices/accents/imitations, and dance). Headshot/resume preferred but not necessary.
