Stephen Colbert Admonishes CNN’s Don Lemon For Ignoring Guest’s Vampire Fangs
by Colby Hall | 7:41 am, July 28th, 2011

When suburban Philadelphia resident Patrick Rodgers discovered that his bank had charged him for mortgage payments not agreed upon, he turned the tables, and “foreclosed on the foreclosers.” Since it’s the perfect cable news interest story, this story received a decent amount of national attention, though as Stephen Colbert pointed out last night, cable news hosts — in particular, Don Lemon — missed the story: Rodgers is a vampire!

Colbert introduced the segment as though he were doing another story from the comfort of his own studio, but the story quickly turned into a field piece that reminded viewers that there is no one better at these sorts of satirical than Mr. Colbert. The viewer is taken through a wild ride that features a chroma-key interrupting bit, a cameo by Dan Rather and an ultimate trip to the Vampire’s lair: a nice suburban Tudor home that would make any succubus happy.

Sidebar: This is the second day in a row that Don Lemon has been featured in a segment on a Comedy Central fake news program. The promotion of his new book certainly helped encourage Lemon’s willing participation in the comedic gag, but his timing and willingness to play along reveal why he’s considered one of the best in the business. There’s no question, but Don Lemon is having a moment!
