Storing Blood
( Disclaimer: this author and this site does not promote the use of blood drinking.)
The question as to how to store blood has popped up from time to time over the years. The most safest way is NOT to store it but to consume it right away. If you MUST store blood, use it within 3 days and stored with a preservative.
The only things that will keep blood from clotting and/or going bad is adding a preservative.
* Blood spoils quickly and easily attracts bacteria.
* Your local butcher is a good resource person.
* Use red wine vinegar in a ratio of 1 cup of to every 6 cups of blood. This keeps the blood from thickening. Freezing fresh blood mixed with vinegar is a safe way to prolong freshness..
*Freezing coagulated blood breaks down the bonds; the blood separates and spoils when thawed.
Lady CG has this information for freezing blood: ratio of glucose to blood is 1 to 10. Glucose is also know as dextrose. You can find dextrose powder in health food/vitamin shops friendly to the body building community. Can also be found from businesses selling to people who make their own home brew.
Signs of Food Poisoning
Start suddenly within 48 hours of eating or drinking contaminated food.
*Nausea, Abdominal Cramping, Vomiting, Diarrhea. Fever is not common but can happen. Diarrhea usually appears after the vomiting.
* Depending on the contaminant can also cause chills and fever, bloody or black stools, dehydration and nervous system damage and may lead to death. Please seek medical immediately.
