5th Anniversary

Today marks the five year anniversary of the Atlanta Vampire Alliance!  It was just five years ago that a group of five individuals from diverse backgrounds in the metro Atlanta, GA area embarked on creating a unique offline House and online organizational support structure designed to raise the educational and communication levels of the real vampire community.  We have steadily grown from the original five members into the thirteen members we have today.  When we're not conducting incredibly long meetings at restaurants and coffee shops around town or racking our brains over statistical data, we sincerely enjoy each other's company, strong drinks, and interesting forms of entertainment!

AVA - Five Years In Review (Condensed Version):

A couple months after officially forming we set upon the task of creating the Vampirism & Energy Work Research Study, a two-part survey of monumental size and scope (VEWRS & AVEWRS).  This research study ran for three years and culminated in nearly 1,000 responses from 40 countries and in five languages from almost every corner of the online and even offline vampire community.  Our research company, Suscitatio Enterprises, LLC, is still processing over 700,000 collected data points and working with researchers and scholars to this day on the results derived from this sociological study.  Selections from the results have been highlighted in four academic papers and numerous books and we will continue to publish new correlated results in the coming years.

In addition to our research study, we have continuously hosted a detailed information-based web site (we generally leave detailed support topics to support-based sites) and the Atlanta Vampire Alliance Forum which remains open to anyone who wishes to belong regardless of their knowledge of vampirism, geographic location, or affiliation/background in the vampire community.  The majority of our involvement among ourselves occurs offline but we've worked hard to maintain a visible online presence through MySpace, Facebook, NING, Twitter (Vampire Community News), LiveJournal, Yahoo Groups, and other social networking sites.  We've sponsored numerous offline gatherings, cultural events, club nights, and the Atlanta Vampire Meetup Group (the largest Meetup.com vampire oriented group in the United States, operating since 2002 with over 600 members).  We've welcomed many individuals to dine and drink with us from other Houses and groups when they've visited Atlanta and collectively have met hundreds of people from the vampire community.

The AVA has attended and presented at Twilight I (Los Angeles, CA), Twilight II (Atlanta, GA), and Twilight III (Seattle, WA) and sponsored Twilight II and III through Suscitatio Enterprises, LLC.  Our members have also attended DragonCon (Atlanta, GA), Black Atlantis (Atlanta, GA), Black Oaks (Savannah, GA), UnivCon (State College, PA), Endless Night Festival (New Orleans, LA), and presented research at the House Kheperu Open House (Cleveland, OH) in prior years.  Granted our research, projects, travel, and operating of several web sites, groups, etc. has come at a hefty cost.  Collectively the members of House AVA have invested over $21,000.00 into the various activities, travel, and projects we've undertaken since 2005 with over $6,500.00 of this coming from the VEWRS/AVEWRS research study alone (not to mention thousands of man hours working on data entry and analysis).  We welcome any and all donations to help defray costs (PayPal: research@suscitatio.com - Suscitatio Enterprises, LLC) or plausible income generating ideas.  This has really been a labor of love and something we view as overall beneficial to the vampire community in the years to come.

Our activities over the next year or so will likely focus more actively on social activities among fellow House members and with the research and the various publications we're drafting associated with the study.  This isn't to say we're stepping back from the online community completely, but we realize our greatest strength lies in what we're able to accomplish in the background and with our direct relationships with the academia and vetting 'responsible' media outlets.  We've been cited in eight books, four academic articles, four magazines, three print newspapers, nine online news articles, three national radio broadcasts, six internet radio/podcasts, three YouTube videos, a variety of miscellaneous blogs, and appeared on two television news productions.  Despite all of this our greatest accomplishment remains our commitment to researching vampirism (social/biological/spiritual), raising the bar of organization within the subculture, and the publication of Joseph Laycock's book, Vampires Today: The Truth About Modern Vampirism.

Thank you to the vampire community for accepting us and providing the opportunity to interact and learn with you.  We look forward to the next five years and are up to the challenge of finding transformative, pioneering, and unique endeavors to keep us moving ahead and improving our local and greater community!

Sincerely,

Merticus, Eclecta, Zero, SoulSplat, Kiera, Maloryn, Drist, SethNunMin, Andarael, RedRaven, Tara, Adrian, & Gray
